Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986, passed by the Parliament of India in 1986, was enacted to protect the rights of Muslim women who have been divorced from their husband and to address related matters. The Act was passed by the Rajiv Gandhi government, which held an absolute majority, to nullify the decision in the Shah Bano case, and effectively diluted the judgement of the Supreme Court.
