Nagarvadhu

Nagarvadhu (also Nagaravadhu or Nagar Vadhu; Devanagari: नगरवधू; lit. 'bride of the city') was a tradition followed in some parts of ancient India. Women competed to win the title of a nagarvadhu, and there was no taboo against the practice.
