Neopopulism
Neopopulism commonly refers to the new wave of populism, primarily right-wing populism, that has emerged internationally following the Great Recession during the first decade of the 21st century. By analogy, just as the Great Depression of 1929 was followed by the rise of fascism in Europe during the 1930s, the Great Recession of 2008 created an environment for new right-wing populist parties that have gained increasing ground and influence, mainly in Europe, but also in other regions of the world.
