Network governance

In business, non-profit and public sector settings, network governance is a form of interfirm or inter-agency coordination reliant on more "organic or informal" relationships than can be seen where internal structures within organizations or formalised contractual relationships between them are more dominant. Network governance constitutes a "distinct form of coordinating economic activity" (Powell, 1990:301) which contrasts and competes with markets and hierarchies.
