The North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO) is an international organization established by the Convention for the Conservation of Salmon in the North Atlantic Ocean on October 1, 1983, As a specialised regional fishery management organisation, NASCO's mission is to contribute through consultation and cooperation to the conservation, restoration, enhancement and rational management of salmon stocks with a 10-Year Plan to slow the decline of wild North Atlantic salmon. NASCO is headquartered in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and was formed in response to the failure of independent states to effectively protect a global common such as the salmon population.
