The North Dakota oil boom was the period of rapidly expanding oil extraction from the Bakken Formation in the state of North Dakota that lasted from the discovery of the Parshall Oil Field in 2006, and peaked in 2012, with slightly less than 100,000 barrels of oil being produced per day in 2007 to about 1,000,000 barrels produced per day in 2014. By 2015, there was substantially less growth noted due to a global decline in oil prices.
