Novy God

Novy God (Russian: Новый Год, lit. 'New Year') is a New Year holiday observed primarily in Russia and other post-Soviet states. The observance was first established by the Soviet Union in the 1930s as a secular alternative to Christmas, stemming from the Communist Party's unofficial policy of state atheism.
