Officiality

The officiality is the ecclesiastical court responsible for administering justice in the name of the person who exercises judicial authority in the Catholic Church. Under the Latin forms officialatus in the 13th century and officialitas in the 14th century, the term officiality originally designated the office of the judicial vicar.
