Pan de ánimas

Formerly in Spain, the pan de ánimas ('bread of souls'), pan de difunto ('bread of the deceased') or pan de muerto ('bread of the dead') were breads that were prepared, blessed and offered to deceased loved ones during All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day (November 1 and 2). Historically, bread in Europe and in the Christian religion was related to both the divine and death.
