Persian metres (Persian: وزن شعر فارسی) refer to the quantitative metrical patterns of long and short syllables used in traditional Persian poetry. Historically, the formal analysis and terminology of Persian meters are derived from the Arabic ʿarūḍ system, established by Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi in the 8th century.
