Pierre de Villiers

Pierre François Marie Le Jolis de Villiers de Saintignon (born 26 July 1956), known as Pierre de Villiers (French: [pjɛʁ də vilje]), is a retired French Army general who served as Chief of the Defence Staff from 2014 to 2017. Following a disagreement on policy orientations with newly-elected President Emmanuel Macron, commander-in-chief of the French Armed Forces, he tendered his resignation, a first under the Fifth Republic.
