Polish landed gentry

Polish landed gentry (Polish: ziemiaństwo, ziemianie, singular: zemianin, from ziemia, "land") was a social group or class of hereditary landowners who held manorial estates. Historically, ziemianie consisted of hereditary nobles (szlachta) and landed commoners (kmiecie; Latin: cmethones).
