Political repression in the Islamic Republic of Iran

Political repression has been exercised in Iran since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. It culminated in Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's rise to power and the establishment of an Islamic republic, whose political system combines religious and state institutions which it previously overthrew.
