Predominant chord

In music theory, a predominant chord (also pre-dominant) is any chord with predominant (subdominant) function, normally resolving to a dominant chord. Examples of predominant chords are the subdominant (IV, iv), supertonic (ii, ii°), Neapolitan sixth and German sixth.
