Prelude to the 2026 Iran war

Tensions between Iran and the United States during negotiations over Iran's nuclear program began to intensify in January 2026 during Iranian authorities' massacres of participants in the 2025–2026 anti-government protests. The US and Iran restarted indirect talks in February, and their representatives stated that they would meet in Switzerland to finalize a peace deal.
