Prima scriptura (Church Latin for 'scripture first') is the Christian doctrine that canonized scripture is "first" or "above all other" sources of authority, but that its interpretation may involve other sources. It also treats revelation and reason as related gifts from God, since written revelation must be interpreted through the use of reason.
