Public domain in French public law
In French public law, the public domain is all property (immovable or movable) belonging to the state, local authorities, public establishments, or other public bodies, and assigned to a public purpose. This public utility may result from the property being assigned for the direct use of the public (such as roads or public gardens) or for a public service, provided that, in the latter case, the property is subject to development that is essential to the performance of the tasks of that public service (such as a university or a court).
