Racial-ethnic socialization

Racial-ethnic socialization (RES or R/E) describes the developmental processes by which children acquire the behaviors, perceptions, values, and attitudes of an ethnic group, and come to see themselves and others as members of the group. In a multiracial country like the United States, the phenomenon of minority parents "helping children understand their race/ethnicity and cope effectively with discrimination" is widely seen.
