Registered investment adviser
In the United States, a registered investment adviser (RIA) is a firm or individual who provides investment advice to clients about securities for compensation and is registered with either the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or the appropriate state securities authority, depending on the size and scope of their business. Registered investment adviser firms receive compensation in the form of fees for providing financial advice and investment management.
