Richard Nixon 1960 presidential campaign
The 1960 presidential campaign of Richard Nixon, the 36th vice president of the United States, under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, began when he announced he was running for the Republican Party's nomination in the 1960 U.S. presidential election on January 9, 1960. He won the Republican primaries with little opposition and chose as his running mate Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.
