Sabra and Shatila massacre

From 16 to 18 September 1982, between 1,300 and 3,500 civilians—mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shias—were killed in Beirut's Sabra neighbourhood and the adjacent Shatila refugee camp by the Lebanese Forces, one of the main Christian militias in Lebanon, with the support of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In June 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon with the intention of rooting out the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
