Same-sex marriage in New Zealand

Same-sex marriage has been legal in New Zealand since 19 August 2013. A bill for legalisation, the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Act 2013, was passed by the House of Representatives on 17 April 2013 by 77 votes to 44 and received royal assent on 19 April.
