The Sharifate of Mecca (Arabic: شَرافَة مَكَّة, romanized: Sharāfat Makka) or Emirate of Mecca was a state, semi-sovereign for much of its existence, ruled by the Sharif of Mecca. A sharif is a descendant of Hasan ibn Ali, Muhammad's grandson.
