Sipahi

The sipahi (Ottoman Turkish: سپاهی, , Turkish pronunciation: [sipaːhi]) were professional cavalrymen of the Ottoman Empire. Sipahi units included the land grant–holding (timar) provincial timarli sipahi, which constituted most of the army, and the salaried regular kapikulu sipahi, or palace troops.
