Songs to the dead (Romanian: cântece ale mortului; Romanian pronunciation: [ˈkɨn.te.t͡ʃe ˈa.le ˈmor.tu.luj]) are Romanian ceremonial funeral songs performed at strictly defined moments of the rite, from death to burial. They are found chiefly in Oltenia, the Banat, southern Transylvania, and western Moldavia (the historical region).
