Symphysiotomy

Symphysiotomy is a surgical procedure in which the cartilage of the pubic symphysis is divided to widen the pelvis allowing childbirth when the baby has difficulty fitting through the pelvis (obstructed labour). It is also known as pelviotomy and synchondrotomy.
