Tablion

The tablion (Greek: ταβλίον) was a rectangular or trapezoidal panel embroidered on the ceremonial mantle (chlamys) of courtiers during the Byzantine Empire. The tablia were chosen to contrast with the mantle colour, and sewn pairwise on the front edges of the mantle.
