Kraus (1925–1944), who was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his "conspicuous gallantry" during the Battle of Peleliu. Richard E. Kraus was laid down by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, on 31 July 1945; launched on 2 March 1946; sponsored by Mrs.
