Unitary authorities of England

In England, a unitary authority or unitary council is a type of local authority that performs all local government functions, in contrast to the two-tier system of local government that prevails elsewhere in England, where local government responsibilities are shared between county councils and district councils. The jurisdiction of a unitary authority is commonly referred to as a "unitary authority area" or "unitary area".
