United Nations and North Korea

North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has maintained a complex relationship with the United Nations (UN) since its founding in 1948. Initially opposing the concept of dual membership for the Korean Peninsula, the DPRK did not join the organization until 17 September 1991, when both North and South Korea were admitted under General Assembly Resolution 46/1.
