United States–Uzbekistan relations formally began on 19 February 1992, days after the United States recognized the independence of Uzbekistan on 25 December 1991. United States–Uzbekistan relations developed slowly and reached a peak following the U.S. decision to invade Afghanistan following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
