Women in politics in France

The place of women in politics in France has evolved over the centuries. While in the Middle Ages, many of them had access to certain important functions and exercised power, their status changed under the Ancien Régime: the laws surrounding the succession of the children of Philip IV condemned women de jure and de facto to a non-political role.
