Bio-based building materials
Bio-based building materials incorporate biomass, which is derived from renewable materials of biological origin such as plants (normally co-products from the agro-industrial and forestry sector), animals, enzymes, and microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Today bio-based materials can represent a possible key-strategy to address the significant environmental impact of the construction sector, which accounts for around 40% of global carbon emissions.
