Controlled ecological life-support system

Controlled (or closed) ecological life-support systems (acronym CELSS) are self-supporting life-support systems for space stations and colonies typically through controlled closed ecological systems, such as the BioHome, BIOS-3, Biosphere 2, Mars Desert Research Station, and Yuegong-1. == Original concept == CELSS was first pioneered by the Soviet Union during the famed "Space Race" in the 1950s–60s.
