Schlieren

Schlieren ( SHLEER-ən; German: [ˈʃliːʁn̩] , German for 'streaks') are optical inhomogeneities in transparent media that are not necessarily visible to the human eye. Schlieren physics developed out of the need to produce high-quality lenses devoid of such inhomogeneities.
